Little Braxted Bridge, Witham - Post and Rail Replacement
Essex Highways are making preparations to replace the post and rail parapet at Little Braxted Bridge located on Little Braxted Lane. This work is due to commence on Monday 17 February 2020 and is anticipated to take approximately 10 days to complete. A full road closure will be needed over the bridge for the duration of the works. The closure is required to safeguard members of the public and the workforce, who will be working in the watercourse, adjacent to and beneath the bridge.
Victim Support is a charity supporting victims of crime - last year it supported over 3,000 people in Essex. It is currently looking to recruit new volunteers to help deliver our service in Essex, and are interviewing this month. See here for further information.
As part of the A12 Chelmsford to A120 widening, Highways England are starting to do some important surveys and ground investigations in the area between junctions 19 and 25, and this may require lane restrictions from junction 18 for safety reasons. The survey leaflet can be read for further information.

#WarmMaldon 2019 Launches
Most of us are lucky enough to have a warm coat to wear when the weather gets colder and to be able to turn the heating up. However, this isn’t the case for many families in the District.
This year a partnership of organisations has come together to deliver a programme of events and initiatives focused on supporting the more vulnerable residents in the District to keep warm. Maldon CVS, Maldon District Council, United In Kind, Maldon Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service are working together on the programme. Some key activities that will be happening over the next few months include:
- Maldon Soup events which give grants to community projects that support residents
- #WarmMaldon coat rails will be dotted around the District for anyone to donate warm coats and for those families who need them to take them for free
(Maldon Library, United Reformed Church (Burnham-On-Crouch) and Watership Downs Nursery)
- Fuel vouchers will be issued to those families and individuals who are identified as being in need and eligible for help to ensure that they can heat their home over the cold periods
In addition, Maldon District Council is keen to know of any other groups who are doing something to help those vulnerable residents who may be at risk of being cold this winter. If you know of any please use #WarmMaldon and mention or tweet (Facebook: Maldon District Council, Twitter: @MaldonDC).
Richard Holmes, Director of Service Delivery said “Cold weather can seriously harm our health which is why it is so important that these initiatives are taking place. If you start to feel unwell during the winter, even if it is a cough or a cold, don’t wait until it gets more serious. Seek advice from your pharmacist.”
Maldon District Council wants your views!
There have been many ‘happy to chat’ benches (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-50000204) appearing around the UK, the benches have provided lots of opportunities for residents to chat and share conversation. MDC wants to know whether you think they are a good idea and if so, what locations would you like to see them in? Some residents have already been in touch with them, but they would like to know your thoughts. Simply fill out this very short form:
