Maldon District Council Supports Maldon Food Pantry Christmas Appeal
Maldon District Council is proud to once again be supporting the Maldon Food Pantry Christmas Appeal, and they are inviting local people to do the same by donating items of festive food to be distributed as food parcels to those most in need in the community. The Council Offices in Princes Road Maldon will act as a collection point for festive food items until Friday 13 December.
This will be the fifth year that the Council has supported the Maldon Food Pantry. We hope that the local community will join us in donating festive themed goods such as Christmas crackers, Christmas cake or pudding, mince pies, biscuits, jelly, custard, tinned ham and any kind of chocolate or sweets. In addition to this, items such as nappies, tuna and coffee are always in short supply and would be most welcome.
The items donated will be handed over to Maldon Food Pantry where dedicated volunteers make up food parcels which are distributed to local people every week. These extra treats will be given as a seasonal bonus to people in need in our community.
If you would like to donate any food items, nappies and coffee, please bring them to Maldon District Council Offices, Princes Road, Maldon, CM9 5DL by Friday 13 December. The offices are open Monday to Thursday 8.30am until 5pm and Fridays 8.30am until 4.30pm

#WarmMaldon 2019 Launches
Most of us are lucky enough to have a warm coat to wear when the weather gets colder and to be able to turn the heating up. However, this isn’t the case for many families in the District.
This year a partnership of organisations has come together to deliver a programme of events and initiatives focused on supporting the more vulnerable residents in the District to keep warm. Maldon CVS, Maldon District Council, United In Kind, Maldon Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service are working together on the programme. Some key activities that will be happening over the next few months include:
- Maldon Soup events which give grants to community projects that support residents
- #WarmMaldon coat rails will be dotted around the District for anyone to donate warm coats and for those families who need them to take them for free
(Maldon Library, United Reformed Church (Burnham-On-Crouch) and Watership Downs Nursery)
- Fuel vouchers will be issued to those families and individuals who are identified as being in need and eligible for help to ensure that they can heat their home over the cold periods
In addition, Maldon District Council is keen to know of any other groups who are doing something to help those vulnerable residents who may be at risk of being cold this winter. If you know of any please use #WarmMaldon and mention or tweet (Facebook: Maldon District Council, Twitter: @MaldonDC).
Richard Holmes, Director of Service Delivery said “Cold weather can seriously harm our health which is why it is so important that these initiatives are taking place. If you start to feel unwell during the winter, even if it is a cough or a cold, don’t wait until it gets more serious. Seek advice from your pharmacist.”
Maldon District Council wants your views!
There have been many ‘happy to chat’ benches (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-50000204) appearing around the UK, the benches have provided lots of opportunities for residents to chat and share conversation. MDC wants to know whether you think they are a good idea and if so, what locations would you like to see them in? Some residents have already been in touch with them, but they would like to know your thoughts. Simply fill out this very short form:
